# INT-Spaces

Pick a space by **looking at it**, and your sound is in that room.

## What it does, in one sentence

It puts your sound inside a place: a booth, a bathroom, a wood room, a chapel, a cathedral or a stadium. You choose by looking at a drawing, not by reading cryptic names.

## Why it isn't a list of cryptic names

Every other plugin of this kind hands you a list of cryptic names: "Hall 3 Large B", "Plate 2 Bright". To choose, you have to audition them one by one and remember.

Here every space is **a drawing**, and they're ordered **from smallest to biggest**. Nothing to learn: look and pick.

## What it does under the hood

If you clap once in a cathedral and record what happens next (the echo, the tail, how it fades): that's the **sound fingerprint** of that cathedral. Applying that fingerprint to your vocal makes it sound as if you'd sung it there.

That's why it doesn't sound like a generic reverb: it sounds like **that place**.

## Where to put it

It's an effect: it goes in a **mixer slot**.

- **On a single track:** puts that instrument in the room. This is the usual case.
- **On the master bus:** puts the whole mix in the same place. Use a small amount (10-20 %) or everything turns to mud.

Put it **last** in the chain, after your compressor and EQ.

## The only control you need

**Amount**: how much of the space you hear.

| 0 % | The audio comes out **exactly** as it went in. |
| 15-30 % | The sound sits "in the room" without anyone noticing an effect. |
| 50-100 % | Now it's an effect: the sound is far away, wrapped in the space. |

## The six spaces

| Space | What it's for |
| --- | --- |
| **Booth** | Just a little air. Stops a very dry vocal sounding like a demo. |
| **Bathroom** | Short and bright, with that tiled slap. Good for percussion and vocals with attitude. |
| **Wood room** | The most versatile. A medium wooden room: works on almost anything. |
| **Chapel** | Long, soft tail. For sustained vocals and things that breathe. |
| **Cathedral** | Huge and dark. For pads, beds and endings. |
| **Stadium** | Very spread out with a distant slap. For effects and big moments. |

## More options

**Low cut**: trims the bass out of **the space**, not out of your sound.

A big space adds bass that piles up and muddies the mix. Raise this and the space gets lighter and clearer, while **your original sound keeps all of its bass**.

If the mix clogs up when you add space, this is the fix: push it to 200-300 Hz.

## Tips

- **Vocal up front but not dry:** Wood room, Amount at 18 %, Low cut at 180 Hz.
- **Distant backing vocals:** Cathedral with Amount at 60 %.
- **So it doesn't fight the lead:** put the space only on the backing vocals and leave the lead dry. The contrast makes the lead sound closer.
- **With the other plugins:** INT-Tidy → INT-Even → INT-Whisper → INT-Spaces. Space always goes last.

## About latency

This plugin needs about **43 milliseconds** to work, and **it tells your DAW**, which lines the track up automatically. You don't have to do anything, and you won't notice it while mixing.

That latency isn't an oversight: it's what lets it do the maths in big blocks instead of tiny pieces. Without it the plugin would burn **five times the CPU**: 23 % of a core instead of 4 %. For a space that trade is free; for a compressor it wouldn't be.

**The one thing to watch:** if you sing while monitoring through the plugin, you'll hear the delay. Take it off (or bypass it) to track, and put it back to mix.

If your DAW has delay compensation switched off, turn it on.

## Si algo no anda

### It doesn't show up in my DAW.

Rescan your plugins. Look for "INT-Spaces" in the effects list.

### I can't hear the space.

Check that Amount isn't at 0.

### The mix got muddy.

Raise **Low cut**, or lower **Amount**.

### The tail gets cut off at the end of the song.

Leave a couple of extra bars at the end of the project: the cathedral tail runs for several seconds.
